Question:

How long until I can eat after Wisdom Extraction?

It's the 5th day after getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted. Am I allowed to eat solid food before I get my stitches taken off? I tried eating french fries yesterday and it was a little hard, but I could do it.

I feel comfortable biting down now that my gums are not swollen anymore. But I'm scared that my gums may open up if I attempt to eat meat. So yeah, how long after wisdom extraction until I can eat meat again? And how about sucking out of a straw?

I'm simply afraid of using my molars to eat food. I'm chewing with my front teeth, which feels extremely weird.

  1. When I had all mine done, I had to use a straw to drink with. And, eat soft foods at first. Mashed potatoes, mashed up bananas, soups, etc. You could get your food chopped up fine. But, be careful before they heal. Be sure and see your dentist when you are suppose to. But, tough meat will be too hard right now.

  2. It would be best to wait at least a full week and a half before eating any solid foods again. Especially since you still have your stitches in, you don't want to mess around with the holes. Just stick to your liquid/semi-liquid foods...you can have soft foods like noodles but stay away from real solid foods like things you really have to bite down on. You can suck from a straw when you can eat solid foods again.
