How long until I get my stupid stimulus check?

I am in the 62 bracket and my notice says that I will get it by the 20th. Other people have gotten there's and I received my notice a week ago today. It also has shorted me $300. I try to call the IRS but I just get an automated operator who tells me to try again later. Well, today is the 20th, and the mail has come and gone.

  1. Quit griping.  Your check was most likely mailed today, and you'll get it next week.  The date on the letter, 6/20, is the date it's MAILED by.

And it's unlikely that they shorted you $300 - it's more likely that you were only eligible for $300.  The rebate is UP TO $600, and you only get that much if your tax liability was at least that much.  Did you use the calculator at http://www.irs.gov/app/espc/ to see what you were eligible for, or did you just see UP TO $600 and assume you would get the maximum amount?

  2. My bracket is 52 and I received my check today. Yours should be coming any time now.

  3. The 20th that you got from the web site is the day the IRS is mailing the check not the date you will receive the Stimulus check.  The IRS will tell you to allow 7 to 10 days from the mailing date to receive the check.  But most of the checks are being received in 3 to 5 days.

The IRS mailed the checks out according to the last two number of your Social Security Number.  It had nothing to do with when you filed your return.

  4. By "bracket" I assume that is the last two digits of your social.  According to the schedule, it should be MAILED today, not received today.  Give it a few days - it will show up.

  5. Well you are expecting "free" money and you think it stupid, and then you want to know why ony $300.

Once IRS mails out the check it is up to the POST OFFICE to deliver the check.  If you haven't received the check in 6 weeks from the 20th of June then contact IRS>

  6. It takes the mail longer to get to some people.  If you live close to the mailing center, you could get it the next day.  If you live on the other side of the country, it could take ten days.

You also need to look at your tax return to see how much you actually paid in taxes.  It sounds like you paid in less than $300 in taxes.  You had to pay in more than $600 in taxes in order to get the full $600 rebate.  Look at line 57 on your tax return.  Add in the amount from line 52.  If this is less than $300, you will get a $300 rebate.  If this is more than $600, you will get a $600 rebate.  If it is $455, you will get a $455 rebate.

Unfortunately, the news stories I heard all focused on the $600 rebate and did not talk about those people who would not get the rebate because they made too much money, nor those people who would get less because they paid in less than $600 in taxes.

  7. it doesn't matter when you filed....they base it off of your social security number in terms of who gets it back first and so on.  did you check the status on the IRS's website?  I believe you can imput your information.  Also, if you are sure you met the requirements to get $600 instead of $300 you should try calling again...even if it means going through a different department.  Once you talk to someone they will be able to transfer your call to the right department.

    Good Luck
