How long until an animal is considered abandoned?

My neighbors keep vanishing for sometimes weeks on end, leaving their Chow/Shepherd mix behind without anyone to look after it. I can't stand to see an animal go hungry (no matter how much I can't stand it), so I've been feeding her while they're gone. The neighbors have vanished yet again, and as usual, left the dog no food or water. I'm getting really sick of putting time and money into this dog.

The dog--other than being abandoned every so often--appears to be okay. She is very skittish and won't let me near her, so I can't check to see. She's not aggressive unless the neighbors let her out of her lot, then she tries to attack my goats.

I don't like this dog, and I really don't like my neighbors for leaving her to starve all the time (they left her for six weeks one time!). How long do I need to wait before I can call the Human Society? (I'm in KY, btw) I may not like this dog, but I don't like to see ANY animal mistreated and would rather see her go to a good home.

you do need to report them and explain that she is still alive because you've been feeding and watering her, and you want her to go to a deserving home, not be put down.

where I live a dog is to have water two times a day, fed at least once a day, and have shelter if this isn't the case then notify animal control

one day ois to long they need to go out side every day pretty much call the police and they can help you because they will direct you to an orgasnization most human societies are only in the cities and you have to find the local branch you can call around but after three to four calls they are going tolead you to the police

You definitly need to call the Humane Society. Or your local SPCA. They will rescue the dog and make sure it finds a good home. It is wrong that they are leaving it with no one to care for it. You are a good person for spending time and money on this dog. With out you, they may have come home to a dead dog. Call the Humane Society while they are gone and say nothing to them. It is their fault they didn't take care of it.

If they leave it with no food or water you should definitely call humane society. call while there on there little "trips". If they can get away with leaving a dog alone for 6 weeks, theres something wrong with youre humane society. Like thats over a month!

i hate ppl that dont care about there animals. I hope they take the dog away.

If they disappear like you say call them next time they leave. Obviously they don't really care for the dog and should be punished for the animal cruelty.
