Question:

How long until the onset of symptoms from mold exposure?

Example: Bought used car from individual a few months back with strange smell. After last heavy downpour, realized water was leaking in. Pulled back fabric on seat to discover lots of black mold in seat foam/ cushion.

What are the symptoms of mold exposure and how long between exposure to onset of symptoms? I'm trying to determine if my headache, skin & sinus irritations are due to the mold exposure or pregnancy symptoms (as pregnancy can bring about all those irritations).

Any resources greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. It def sounds like your symptoms are mold related. You need some antifungal meds if the mold in your car is toxic asap

  2. Mold exposure can cause symptoms immediately. Headaches, skin and sinus irritation are often associated with mold.

Some levels of mold are highly dangerous and you should have it tested. Please do not sell the car with this in it. Don't be the cause for someoen else's health.

Most people who aren't allergic to mold will have these symptoms when around it.

    Stuffy nose/respiratory problems/coughing

    Skin rashes/hair loss

    Acid reflux                                                                                              Digestiveproblems                                                                            Memory/cognitive problems

That's only what it can minorly do to those not allergic to it. There's a much longer list of course.

You might have some recourse on the person who sold you the car, legally. You might want to check with an attorney. They have places that specialize in getting rid of mold and finding which kind it is. Some are deadly and have long term effects just by being around it. Find out which kind, find out your legal rights and stay out of the car for now. Esepcially if you are pregnant! This can harm the baby, and possibly even kill it.
