How long until we totally destroy this planet?

I recently began thinking seriously about the phenomenon about life, earth, the universe & everything. Ok, yes I know.. a little too much to swollow in 1 bite but lets focus on the nature of earth. I find it amazing that this 'fluke' has occurred, that is our very existence. The precise amount & combination of gasses, water, pressure, etc, & the perfect rotation around the sun causing seasons & the spinning aroung on its own axis causing day & night.. all working in harmony to create life. I wonder if somewhere else in the universe there might be a similar phenomenon, maybe not? This might be the only of its kind ever anywhere. But with the creation of life came the manifestation of the human being. A virus with the intellegence & ignorance set hellbent on the destruction of this 'fluke' as before mentioned. Building artificial structures everywhere, destroying the organs of this planet, creating waste.. its like a planet on heroin.

I wonder...

  1. I think a lot of time, if we can slow the process down if we are aware. If we do not pay attention; 10 seconds.

Scientist say it can not be stopped, only slowed down, so i think we should all be aware and alert.

  2. It can't be done by humans, sorry.

  3. I'm guessing I'll still be alive when the scientists officially declare that we're doomed.

And when that happens, I will bury myself in the polluted and intoxicated dirt with a sign over my grave reading "I told you so."

Unless, of course, the majority decides to face the truth that our earth is DYING! But knowing that we're human, we're allergic to bad news, so the majority of us will ignore it and continue to live our destructive lifestyles.

Btw, sorry for the pessimistic answer. I just don't believe that environmental issues should be sugarcoated in euphemisms. =]

  4. i hope it's soon. there are too many looney tunes running around trying to fix things that aren't broken. the only problem is, creating the idea of there being a problem. they've all been told to stop smoking that c**p, but, they insist on doing it, and don't realize their dreams are becoming real. do you realize all the supposed problems this world has, was brought up by people that has done drugs?  and the ones that believe their story, are on drugs.  is that not funny?

  5. dont worry.....the human race was long gone  and the planet survived

  6. What's the one thing everybody likes? Meat. Why? It provides protein. What animal has tasty flesh and lots of it? The cow. What does South America do to contribute to what you have detailed in your question? They burn down the rainforest to make room for more cows.

Now - what they don't tell you is that cows experience substantial flatulence - far more than a human. There are billions of cows in the world, and all of them farting creates a lot of nasty nitrogen that is converted into carbon dioxide.

In some countries (New Zealand is one) there is actually an "animal flatulence" tax for farmers.

It is important to note that the USA and most other populous countries don't give a hoot about cow farts. They have more important things to worry about!

Animal flatulence is just as bad as landfills, hospital waste, chemical waste, and factories dumping run-off into the river.

Radical laws must be passed if we want to prevent the ice caps from melting, as you say.

Pressuring South America to stop burning down the rainforest to make room for cows is the first step, in my opinion.

  7. Hello Mr.Claude

I  read your Question and feel  deeply about our Earth. We all of this EARTH is utilising WATER/GAS/PETROL/DIESEL/ELECTRICITY/ IRO-ALUMINIUM-COPPER ORE and many more we drawing from EARTH. But input  is very Poor.

I am a Environmentalist. I am doing to the Maximum Saving as much as possible.

    1. Running Cycle to Office by Bicycle only. (Office 5 KM from my house). I am saving Petrol and reducing the Air Pollution also.

    2. I am keeping my House Neat & Clean. No Entry for PLATICS/CIGARATTEE/TOBAACO/RUBBER/THERMO... into my House.

3.I am making Awarness about SAVE OUR EARTH to all my Family Members, Friends and all.

    4.I am not wasting WATER/GAS/ELECTRICITY/PETROL/DIESEL/PAPE...

5.We have to reduce Minimise the Usage of Cars/Two Wheels. One way we can save IRON/ALUMINIUM ORE  from earth and otherway  we can save Petrol/Diesel/Gas and Drastically Air/Water Pollution to be reduced. Of course Traffic Problem also Reduced.

6.Burning of RUBBER/TYRE/THERMOCOOL/PLASTIC  to be banned and it should sent for Recycle. Burining the above damange our Air & Ozone Layer.

    7. Every House should be Clean and old items like Tyre/Broken Cycle/Damanged AC Machine/Cooler/Box/Unrapairable items like Cooker/suitcase/Damaged/Old Papper/Gunny Bag/Platic items/Bottle/PVC tubes & Fittings.

    8. Birthday/Marriage day to be Celebrated ECO Friendly. No Balloon/No Helium Filled Balloon/Platics Cups/Plates etc.

If we do B.Day/M.Day very simple, they above will be not utilised and indirectly pollution/Wastage of the above items.

Do know after Birth Day/Marriage day lot of Plastic Plates/Cups/Plastic Spoon thrown to Street/Dust Bin.

No body is bothering about our EARTH.

    9. If EARTHQUAKE/TSUNAMI comes it make all of us Homeless and killing lot of Human Beings/Livestock/Birds/Animals.

10.Rivers/Riverlets/Seas are too important for Rain. We have keep  all our earth Neat & Clean.

  8. Interesting you should say "virus".  I was recently musing how the news is frequently reporting on how this bacteria or that  has mutated and is no longer killed by our antibiotics.  If you look from the earth's point of view, it keeps coming up with new "anti-bodies" against us, and we keep coming up with ways to resist.  We are like an infection of the earth.  Every now and then, the earth comes up with a good antibody and reduces the population.  This is terrible for those impacted, but not necessarily a bad thing from the planet's survival point of view.

Anyway, to your question.  People have a tendency to selfishly consume (though unaware of their selfishness).  We are born into the technology of the day and it is sweet.  Yet, most do not research beyond their own little world to see the impact of their own consumption. For example, how often do people consider the children and families in third world countries who are working for a dollar and a quarter a day to give us cheap clothes, shoes, etc.  Or, the coffee farmers whose families are literally dying of hunger while we drink our lattes in quaint coffee shops.  Or, the amount of pollution or destruction that went into making or shipping our goods. No, having these things is seen as a birthright.  We love our stuff so much, that we are willing to blindly accept whatever the corporations tell us about safety and "goodness" of their products, and how much we need to have them.

However, sometimes we go too far, and nearly wipe ourselves out.  When destruction seems imminent, then we suddenly come together to try to fix it.  The cold war nuclear threat is an example.  Most recently, people suddenly awoke to the sound of water flowing off our ancient glaciers, and said "Hey, I live on the coast!  I better do something!'  Suddenly, people are talking about CO2, global warming, etc, as if the idea hasn't been around for 30 years.  Hopefully, it is not too late.  We must all do our part.

If it is too late, probably a few people will survive the earth's fever and start over.  If not, the planet will go on...just notably different.

  9. my school was doing sustainability this term so i know quite a bit.

it is said that the arctic ice will melt by summer 2050, which means it will start getting hotter and hotter but then also it would flood because so much ice will melt and so probebly in a decade or so scientists say.

  10. I have no doubt that man will die in his own filth.

  11. We have come a long way from what it was like back in 1970. If you think pollution in bad now it was 1000 times worse back then.

  12. Once you get your head around the fact that we are totally insignificant in the scheme of the total cosmos, it really doesn't matter. Hopefully on some other planet there are beings that are doing a lot better job at not ********** up their planet. The universe will survive without us.

  13. live ur life i dun know all i know is its gonna be a long long long long long lnog long long long time
