How long until your teeth look a little bit straighter?

I am getting braces soon, and among other questions, I wonder wether it takes long for them to stop looking weird on you, and get your teeth straight looking and a little less awkward?

Well, I didn't really notice the gradual change with my braces.  It was kind of strange.  One day, I just looked in the mirror and smiled and they were straight.  I wen't on a week long trip and didn't smile in the mirror then, so I think thats when they just straightened out, but that was about three months after I got braces.  Since you see your teeth every day, it will be hard for you to notice gradual change until it's perfectly lined up.  Good Luck!

It takes a surprisingly short time to notice your teeth getting straighter. You'll feel like all of your teeth are loose for a while, but you get used to it pretty quickly. You will probably notice a difference in two or three weeks (but keep in mind that they move the most in the beginning). In the first two or three months they will do lots of shifting and from then on you don't really notice a lot until people say "wow your teeth are getting so straight!". They'll look a lot less awkward as they continue to straighten. Make sure you brush very thoroughly around ALL brackets and if you have any loose bands call to have them glued back on immediately. If you have a loose band and don't tell them, acids from food will access the tooth and eat away, and you can't brush those spots since they're hidden under the band.
