  1. Ana Ivanovic has 450 points to defend at Wimbledon. She already lost a few points for not playing any grass court warm-up tournaments (reached the quarterfinals at 2007 Ordina Open) and recently withdraws from the Tier II International Women's Open.  I think she'll remain at the top spot until after Wimbledon finishes. I think Maria Sharapova has the best chance to take back the spot because she has the closest points after Ana Ivanovic and Sharapova only reached the fourth round at Wimbledon last year. Sharapova and Jankovic will be competing for the No. 1 rank, but Jelena Jankovic already withdraws from DFS Classic which she was the defending champion.

  2. around 20 days

  3. I think she will be no. ranked just until wimbledon. After Wimbledon, either Sharapova or Jankovic will take over, I believe it will be Sharapova. But for the year end ranking, either Safina or Serena will be strong contenders. Serena has been palying so well at the beginning of this year, so has Safina. If they both (and Sharapova) keeps playing consistently, there will be an interested competition for the number one spot at the end of the year!

  4. Only until the Wimbledon starts. By that week, she will be number 2 again. Two weeks at number 1 is a great accomplishment. Plus, she beat Jankovic.. hehehehe

  5. I hope for a long time

    Only the future can say!!

  6. I think she can hold on to it until the US Open or until when Wimbledon is over. Maria, depending how she plays during the US Open series, can take the top spot easily.

  7. She'll drop down after Wimbledon. The one who will replace her is the one who wins Wimbledon, and I think it's between Jankovic, Sharapova, or maybe Kuznetsova. I'm rooting for Jankovic though :)

  8. In my heart? Forever.

  9. I just hope Maria Kirilenko gets the #1 spot, such a goddamn goddess.

In answer to your question, I honestly think up until the U.S. Open.

  10. As long as she keep winning the tournament. However, if in next Wimbledon 08 she failed to reach at least Semi, the World No.1 will be handed to either Sharapova or Jankovic if they win that Slam.

  11. I think she can stay there for a year or more, but Sharapova and Jankovic are close, so everything can happend

  12. hope not long.-

i think dinara safina has the potential to be number one if she keeps playing like she has lately, besides she doesn't defend many points from last year, so she can go up easily.-

jankovic also could be the one.-

  13. Well, she had what it took to win RG last weekend but the way the women's panorama looks now,I doubt she'll hold on long to the number one spot. There are too many players with the same characteristics and not many differences between them - powerful big hitters. My gut feeling is that they are all going to have good days and bad days and that the number 1 rating will fluctuate among them (Ivanovic,Sharapova,Safina,Jankovic,                      and maybe Serena and one or two more).

Ivanovic will have to bring something a little more distinctive to the game if she wants to dominate over all of them. Now that she has got her insecurity under control, maybe she can work on this.
