My budget will be $10,000 after airfare, and I'll be couch surfing the entire time (hopefully).

If you don't know what it is, check it out: www.couchsurfing.com

I know the best way to stay the longest is stick in Eastern Europe, but I still want to check out the West. The countries I want to see most are France, England, Ireland, and Scotland. Followed closely by the rest of Western Europe.

I know to stick with trains, hitch hike whenever possible (and safe),eat where the blue-collar folk eat, and get a few beer buzz BEFORE you get to the bar/disco. I just need an exerienced travelers advice. Especially on budget; if, generally, 40 euro a day is realistic.

I'm not looking for a hardcore partying/alcohol binge, or to spend all of my time at the museums, I want to experience Europe how the people who live there do.

If you have had experience couch surfing in Europe, your answers would be much appreciated!

  1. Ages! Maybe 6 months. I live in Ireland and I spend my summers in Spain (party islands) and I survive in Spain on about 100 euro a week (after rent and utilities.) You'll get about 6,400 euros for $10,000. I would definately leave Eastern Europe until last. It's beautiful in parts but the real fun is in the west. I would also recommend taking a flight from England over to one of the Canary or Balearic islands. A cheap flight will cost you about £40 and believe me, the party scene during the summer there is second to none! But there is so much to see on the mainland as well. If I could give you any advice it would be to check out both the tourist and the rural parts of every country in the west. Especially in places like Italy and France. I wish I had that much money to see Europe with!

  2. Jay I have no idea.  But I'm about to do the exact same thing on a much tighter budget.. I'm going in a little less than a week and a half so I guess I'll let you know when I get there (I'll hopefully be couch surfing the entire time as well, but I just signed up a few days ago I found quite a few hostels in Greece for 20-23USD) If you need any help I guess I'll try to help keep you posted.  If anyone reads this please help answer the question that I just asked!! Please ;)!!!  RAIL EUROPE QUESTION NEEDS ANSWER ASAP
