Jelena Jankovic’s ranking remains unchanged at world No. 8 in the Australian Open wash-up. But her third round exit there (lost to 30th ranked Alona Bondarenko) hot on the heels of a first round loss in Sydney to 40th ranked Agnes Szavay don’t bode well for her long-term chances of keeping her ranking in single digits for too much longer. The Serb will need to turn things around soon if she’s to stay ahead of the likes of Vera Zvonareva, Nadia Petrova and co.

  1. Jankovic did play in Serbia's Fed Cup loss to Russia, despite being unsure whether a back injury would keep her off the court in the lead up to that one. And she managed to defeat Svetlana Kuznetsova in that one too. So I don't know what that means for her schedule in the near future.

Do agree that a Grand Slam title seems beyond her at this point.

She's resting an injury so won't be defending many points over the next few weeks.

JJ plays such a heavy schedule generally that she will get back in the Top 10, but the Q should be will she win a Slam?

I doubt it. By the time Serena, Clijsters and Henin are retired, there'll be younger and more ambitious girls who will have overtaken her. A shame because she is one of the most watchable platers on tour.
