How long will Lenin's body last?

it's put on display at Lenin Mausoleum at Moscow and he's given an yearly bath in formaldehyde, methanol and ethanol to preserve his body.

But how long will this technique last? it must be pretty gross bathing a dead man's body for decades

  1. I've seen antique lab specimens from the American Civil War period (1865) that looked OK in 2004.  The most likely degradation processes would come from oxidation from air/oxygen and/or photochemical bond breakage.  In a dark mausoleum, he may outlast everyones interest in him.  (After some time, he'll get tossed out like any other left-over.)

    God rest his soul. (because the rest of him is working for the living ;-)


  2. I think it is pretty weird myself.  He has been in that mausoleum case now longer than he was alive.   Some people get a daily infusion of ethanol while they are alive.  Maybe that explains it.
