How long will Whitewood last in the elements if I seal it, then paint it?

it's labeled Whitewood at Lowes. I don't know if that's Spruce, Pine, Fir...

Lowes whitewood is fir..Make sure you seal the end grain and both sides..you will get some life out of it..other than using a sealer then a paint..just get a polyurethane based paint and take care of both steps at one time...

Looks like a type of  pine to me, and can be stained.  Go to www.whitewood.net.  They have some info there, and then you can expand the search further.
