How long will Wicked and We Will Rock You run for?

I hope to god they don't close next year!! Although I heard WWRY is booking until October 2009.

I was so sad and disappointed when Mary Poppins closed. Why did that have to close early and go on tour?

The Lion King has been on Broadway for 11 years and West End 9 years so that will bound to close soon. If The Lion King is running for long then so should Wicked and We Will Rock You!

  1. First off, Mary Poppins hasn't closed on Broadway.Just because it started a national tour doesn't mean it closed on Broadway. It means the show was successful enough that people would want to see it at their close theaters and would make money. I have friends going to the city this week and they have tickets for it. And if it was closed, the website (http://disney.go.com/theatre/marypoppins... ) wouldn't still be selling tickets through early Jan. 2009. And we don't know how long exactly Wicked will be running for. It will be running as long as people are paying money to see the show and the theater is filled.

  2. The runs of shows are determined by not how good the shows quality is, but how much money a show makes...

Also, shows are VERY expensive to put on...salary for actors, musicians, backstage, front of house...not to mention the cost of special effects...

That being said, Wicked is going to continue to run until the show stops making money...Judging by the shows growing popularity, I'd say it will be running for years to come...

  3. depends on how much $ they make, if a too little to keep the show up and running then it will close but wicked is doing well right now

  4. The London and Broadway productions of Wicked aren't closing for a long time. The only productions closing next year are Los Angeles and Chicago because the San Francisco and Mexico productions are opening in 2009.

  5. The amount of $ the show makes has a part in their closing. Also Wicked on Broadway has an open-ended contract. this means that the Gershwin Theatre has no plan for another show to run there. (Wicked could last forever!!!!!!--or until the theatre needs fixing : p     )
