How long will a dead rat feed flies?

Question

Had a rat die in my vents but was unable to vacuum it out since it was deep in the ventwork. Now I have dozens of flies in my house. I am looking for recommendations on what to do next? Also now they have been appearing in my fireplace that is not connected to my vents, very strange?

Ewww! Get someone in to retrieve it, wild rats can carry diseases and if you have any pets they could catch something. For the odour get something called Nilodor (I purchased it from my local Big W but I don't know if you are in Australia soooo). Be respectful to the poor thing!

OK, call some type of extermenator or something. Get that rat out of the vents!!!! If you have other pets they could catch something, either from the rat or the flies, and you could to!
