  1. you're pretty much stuck. It's probably a house gecko of some sort, and it could probably live it's entire life (up to 20 years) in your house eating wild insect. You could try to catch it an put it back outside, but chances are there are more in your house.

  2. It is a HARMLESS creature which accidently invaded your home.  While there, it will be doing you the service of removing unwanted insects and spiders.  Please don't kill the poor thing!

You can try to catch it by providing a moisture hide in a warm, darkened area.  Use any plastic container with a lid (you may want to use something semi-clearn, like a cheap Glad or Ziplock storage container, so you can see if the lizard is in there without picking it up.  Cut a hole into the side (about 1/2 - 1 inch up from the bottom) which is a bit bigger than the lizard is around.  Heat it quickly with a lighter so the edges of the hole aren't sharp, and line it with a layer of moist paper towels.

Check it frequently.  If you find him asleep in there, just cover the hole with a piece of cardboard (or get your son to do this), and take it outside, a good ways from the house.  Release it back where it belongs.

Good luck, and I hope this has been helpful.
