How long will a healthy indoor cat live for?

I know indoor cats live longer but how much longer, I want my cats to live as long as possible i cant ever imagine being without them, Is there a recommended diet to prolong life expectancy, Whats the oldest indoor cat you have known, Thanks, Katie.

Cats live up to around 15 years, some longer. Outdoor cats have an average 2 year lifespan. That is because they are exposed to disease, other animals and roads.

Try not to overfeed your cat....weight can cause health problems. Give him/her a good cat food that has nutrients in it.

A Cat can Live to 20 I have heard some have Lived to 25 but that is extremely Rare ,most to 18. A Cat my Cousins had was a Colossal Weight. Usually when you pick up a Cat it is Light but This Fellow was a Heavy Weight. It was Called Speedy and a Marmalade Colour a real Garfield type of Cat. I would say it Weighted Two stone or Twenty Eight Pounds. IT lived to 16 Years, It got very Thin all of a  sudden and was Diagnosed with Kidney Trouble and so  had to be put to Sleep. A few of our Cats lived to Twenty.

Genetics, neutering/spaying, good nutrition, daily exercise, regular access to medical care and a safe environment are all factors that determine lifespan.  

The majority of cats die in their teens of age related illnesses such as kidney failure, diabetes or heart disease, which bear no relation to whether or not the cat was allowed to spend any time outside.  Obviously if you live in an area that has heavy traffic or predators, then keeping them inside is best because you eliminate the risk of premature death by accident.

I've been fortunate enough to have always lived in areas where it was safe to allow my cats to go out every day if they wanted to and all of them lived until at least their mid-teens.  My last cat was 19 when she had to be put to sleep due to kidney failure.  (The oldest feral cat on record in the UK was 28).

As cats are obligate carnivores, I prefer to feed them wet food as I think it's closer to their natural diet than dry food is.  This link has some advice on the best diet for cats which you may find helpful.

The record is 36 years, but my vet says that she sees a lot of 21-24 year old cats in her clinic.  I haven't gotten any over the age of 20 though.  The oldest now is 17 in our house.

A cats will not live longer indoors the age of a outdoor cat is longer by about 5years but there are things to consider such as traffic wild animals and other animals such as people. The age for a indoor cat is max about 15 years but a well looked after outdoor cats is about 22 years.

The diet is best to keep away from the supermarket brands and talk to the vet about diet. Most Vets have a little store in the waiting area with all the best pet food available and info on what to buy your pet.

My cat Leo which was neutered lived up to 19 years, first 12 years was living on a yacht. His main diet was cat biscuits and raw fish that it catches with its sharp claws.

we have an indoor cat ( she is actually frightened to go outdoors ).

and we believe that she will see a ripe old age due to not being run over or picking up diseases from the outside world.

a few years ago a stray pregnant queen adopted us . she gave birth to 3 lovely kittens in the children`s bedroom one saturday morning.

sadly they all died within a year and a half due to car drivers who don`t give a d**n !!

as for diet, just give them what they enjoy and keep them happy, our little madam even enjoys a nibble at cakes ,raw veg ,ice lollys ,and is a sucker for raw eggs.

as i type , she is destroying a digestive biscuit .

love is the key with moggies ,give it , and you`ll get it back ten fold .

In captivity, indoor cats typically live 14 to 20 years, though the oldest-known cat lived to age 36. When I was growing up I had two cats one was name Kelly and the other was one of her babies named Inky, Kelly lived to be 20 years old and Inky lived to be 19 years old. An interesting thing about these two cats was the fact Kelly was born the same day John F Kennedy was killed and Inky was born on the same day Robert Kennedy was killed we nick named them the assassination  cats.

Ive kept  cats indoors and out and believe me indoor cats live longer.

My eldest outdoor cats maximum age was 13 while I have 2 cats who live inside and they are 16 and 17. and still going strong.

I feed on good quality commercial food, sometimes dried, tinned or the pouches. makes a change for them but I do use the 'senior' variety now they are older.

Stands to reason an indoor cat isn't going to get attacked by other cats/dogs. get run over by traffic, catch diseases from foxes etc.

well, the older cat in the world has lived till 25 years, and i think it was very healty...but normal cats can arrive to 20, i think....there's not a diet for make it lives more, but if he's healty and not too fat, he can live for a very long time! i wish it to your cat!!!i love cats ^^
