I am getting an iguana but I can only afford a small cage for about $10. The cage is almost twice the length of the iguana. Its a baby iguana, how long do you think it will be before I will have to build a new cage? Which I plan on doing?

  1. it will last it probably 2-3 months because iguanas grow very fast and can reach to be 6.5ft if i were you i'd start to make that enclosure now and then get the iguana because you'll save alot of money

  2. At young ages under the right conditions all large lizards including iguanas grow at a very high right.  My suggestion is build a new cage as soon as possible.

  3. well i have two iguanas so i say for about maybe 5 months

  4. They should never be put in small cages.  They need cages taller than they are long.  It should always be 1.5 times the length of the lizard.  I would not get an iguana if I couldn't afford or was not able to build a large cage.  They need heat lamps, UVB lighting, water bowls large enough to soak their whole body in, daily misting, and a correctly balanced salad with vitamins daily.  They are not cheap or easy to care for.  They grow very quickly, so even a 50 gallon tank won't last more than a few months.

  5. i have had two iguanas and at first i had a small cage but it was still big enough for them to have there own room. You just need to make sure that it has stuff to climb on (like take some tree branches) something to heat them up (like a heating pad) and you also got to make sure that they can have food and water. If all this works and your iguana still has room to move around then your good. This should be okay for at least a week or so. But you will have to get a bigger cage fast just so it has more room to do stuff

  6. not long, my friends iguana grew to 6ft 7" in 3 months

  7. your gonna need a really big cage for a bearded dragon

  8. As soon as you can build it would be best.  We rescued an iguana that was 18" long that had been living in a 10 gal fish tank.  The vet thinks she was probably not going to grow as big as she could have due to being in a small tank. I don't know if you have every had an iguana and  I am not sure if you know the importance of calcium in their diet.  You can buy it at pet stores.  Their bones can become very fragile if you don't feed it.  They are also meat and vegetable/fruit eaters when they are very young and then they only eat fruits/vegetables when they are older.  They also have to have heat to digest their food.  Ours loved her hot rock and the log we had in her house for her.  She would eat in one side of her house and p**p on the papers on the other side.  She would also let us know when she wanted to have her house cleaned! We moved her outside to an indoor/outdoor house and she had a pool to swim in.  She would swim, p**p and then want her pool cleaned. She was a lot of fun. Good luck with yours and enjoy!
