  1. Electronic components are mostly not biodegradable. They contain things like metals, silicon, glass, and plastics. The plastics may biodegrade but very slowly. The other components such as metals will not biodegrade.

    Electronic components should be recycled when ever possible. In the case of a transponder, fortunately there are not huge numbers of them in use and so if one is lost and adds to pollution it will have only a small effect compared to the millions of computers we dispose of every year.
