How long will eggs stay fresh outside of the refrigerator?

I have a chicken coop and just discovered a hidden stash of 7 eggs that one of my hens laid outside of the coop. I think they're about 3 or 4 days old.

  1. 1. Fill a deep bowl or pan with enough cold tap water to cover an egg.

       2. Place the egg in the water.

       3. If the egg lies on its side on the bottom, the air cell within is small and it's very fresh.

       4. If the egg stands up and bobs on the bottom, the air cell is larger and it isn't quite as fresh.

       5. If the egg floats on the surface, it it should be discarded.

       6. A very fresh egg out of the shell will have an overall thick white which doesn't spread much and the yolk will stand up.

       Hope this helped!

  2. The water test is the best. It will let you know if it's been to hot outside for them. I'd just make a few changes:

If it stands up on an angle, it is still ok

If it stands up straight but is still touching the bottom, it is ok to bake with it

As for salmonella, it is no more dangerous than a store-bought egg. As long as you aren't planning on eating it raw, it should be fine.

  3. I wouldn't eat them if they were not refrigerated or you will get salmonella.

  4. Eggs don't have to be stored in the fridge to stay fresh.

Look in the supermarket & you will see that they are on a normal shelf.

Eggs are fine for up to 3 weeks.

  5. Better safe than sorry just take it as a loss and toss em, eggs need to be fresh, or you can put them in the hens nest and see what she wants to do with em maybe its not too late for them to hatch but its def. too late to eat them....

  6. i wouldnt eat them if i were you- how hot is it where your at? if its cold where you are they might be ok, but if its hot i would throw them away.

  7. i am not sure what eggs you mean but if they are chicken eggs they last for months, i believe. after all the come from a bird's butimo and they sit on a pile for months to hatch new birds. alligator eggs and turtle eggs must be eaten quickly.

  8. About 45 Minutes,

do not worry if theyve been out shorter than that, other than that, you need new eggs!
