My husband is in the U.S. Navy and is stationed in Japan, but when he received his orders while he was still in school we weren't married yet. I am already enrolled into deers and have a military I.D. but, since we weren't married at the time I'm not on his orders. Even though the orders said he could take dependents, when he went to talk to the staff about me accompanying him they told him I couldn't go with him since he was only there for 24 months, but since his orders did say he could take dependents they said when he arrived in Japan he could volunteer for 36 months and I could go as soon as his orders were changed. I guess I just want to have an idea on long I will have to wait till the orders will be changed and I can go.

  2. This happened to our best "couple" friends. He got here and had to do alot of paperwork, but it took about a month for them to get her over here. So don't fret, it will happen.

  3. 2 points.

  4. Wow  24 months and he cant bring dependents. I'm an Army wife so I know things might be different. My husband is currently in Korea, if its a 12 month tour its without dependents and a 24 month tour if your family comes along. Even though a soldier does a 12 month, their spouse can still come, they just wont get the free housing or medical. Everything comes out of pocket.

  5. This is tricky because it all depends on how quickly his command will push his paperwork through.  In the meantime, you should start packing your things, getting your Passport if you haven't gotten one, and getting your hands on as much material on Japanese culture as possible so you're familiar with their customs.

Sounds like an exciting opportunity for you.  Good luck to you and your husband!
