How long will it take Gustav to calm or pass through New Orleans?

I understand it is to be a class 5 hurricane when it hits the New Orleans shore just after midnight tonight. I am curious to know how long the winds will be strong enough to be destructive.

Peace and many thanks.

  1. I think the highest it would be would be a category 4. But it'll make landfall tomorrow morning sometime. New Orleans started feeling the effects today and will continue feeling the effects for most likely the next 24 hours. Hopefully the levees hold up.

  2. May be, it will be a strongish tropical storm crossing the coast, in about 18 to 22 hrs! very strong winds and squall!

  3. Gustav is only a category 3 hurricane  with winds of 115mph and he's not expected to strengthen anymore. He might even be a category 2 at landfall which is 96-111mph winds. Once he makes landfall, he'll weaken to a tropical storm  (winds 39-73mph)but he'll start to slow down which will cause more rain to fall and produce a lot of flooding in Louisiana. By Tuesday night, he's predicted to be downgraded to a  tropical depression and enter Texas. Here are too good links to stay informed about Gustav:

  4. I don't know for now all you can do is pray!

    God bless:)

  5. if u look at the sattilete pics gustav isnt making a direct hit on new orelans it will still be descructive but not very destrcutvie , i say 18  hours to a day to pass by

  6. I'll say she'll be gone by Tues: night at latest.
