  1. Before he can catch the ball, he has to get off the line. If he did play in the NFL, there is no corner in the league that would try to run with him. They would play up close and bronze his gold medals at the snap.

Now, if a kickoff/punt team could create a hole for him to run in a straight line with no one in front of him all the way to the end zone every kick, he might be a good returner.

  2. Bolt could sign a contract this year...I'm sure there's more than one NFL team interested in adding a "Lightning" Bolt to their roster.. Think of track stars in the NFL, Bob Hayes, Willie Gault, Herschel Walker, Renaldo Nehemiah and Darrel Green. Bolt has displayed more facility than all of them. Reports state that Bolt was a good cricket player as well, so that probably means, he can catch while running laterally. And, amazing athlete that Bolt is, I'm sure he could put his tremendous facility together and deliver for any NFL team that is smart enough to sign him up. So then the only question remains is...can he take a hit? Or better question...will he ever need to?

There is already buzz about Bolt as a potential WR or CB. I'd rather he stick with track for a few years because I'd love to see what he does as he grows, he's no where near his peak. Still, I recognize even as a minor player in the NFL he can earn (make?) much more than he can as the track world's fastest human of all time.  If Bolt does end up in the NFL, hopefully he'd just do  punt returns safer for his body and can allow him to continue to run track! He is very young and his options are open.

  3. h**l naw

my man wont be playing with americans sorry

  4. Speed isn't everything. If it was...all of these guys would be in the NFL. Being fast might be a prerequisite to play certain positions in the NFL, but it's not a "football" skill.

WR's must be able to run precise routes, read defenses (including "hot reads"), not give away their route or read, have world class hands to catch rapid-fire bullets from NFL QBs.

Cornerbacks must have similar skills (minus the hands), except they have to do it all while backpedaling. That's a football skill, not a sprinting skill.

Besides, he's the world record holder and gold medalist in the 100m dash, he's 21 and still improving. He is the best sprinter in the world.

Why on earth would he give up his sprinting career to be just another fast guy getting beat up in the NFL?

  5. What makes you think he would want an NFL contract?  Football destroys a lot of athletes. It's a brutal sport. I guess the money is pretty good but he's making millions without having to get beat up.

  6. You make it sound so easy. I bet you've never played organized ball.

    1) Can he run different routes?

    2) Can he catch?

    3) Can he take a hit?

2 & 3) Can he catch, while taking a hit?

Next time, think before you ask & answer your own question. It will help you to not be percieved as some whimp who's only action on a Football field, was marching in the band!

BTW- Most "track-rats" can't take a hit, because they are whimps!

  7. That's a dumb question, Justin Gatlin tried out for several teams and didn't make it, and he actually played football before in his life. He won't even try out for anyone.

  8. hahah yeah. I was thinking the same. But I gotta agree with Robert C. The football talent may no be there. Let him just ride the Track wave.

  9. Block, yeah right! It all depends on if he WANTS to play football.

  10. Justin Gatlin tried to move into the NFL...he didn't make it.

Speed and size are not the only factors.  You must have football skills.

Maybe Bolt does, I don't know.  But I would say the odds are against him ever playing in the NFL.
