  1. You really have to scoop him up and hold him for several minutes at a time everyday. It takes patience and lots of time. Guinea Pigs are naturally very afraid of people and so it will take a while for him to get used to you. You just need lots of patience. Pet him and hold him and speak softly to him, try not to make sudden moves when you hold him as that will scare him.

I have two guinea pigs, and at first, they ran away when I came into the room! So I just gave thenm space, and about a month later, they warmed up to me.

  2. Usually when you gets them your supposed to leave them for 28-48 hours in the cage or whatever you have set up for them, obviously with the cage all set up with food and water etc etc.  Then approach them slowly as if you just go straight up to them, they will squeak and hide and they can bite if they feel threatened.

Talk to your pig in calm voice every day and also use his/her name and them maybe after a week or so try stroking and handling your pig.

They are quite intelligent and learn quickly and can be very funny!

    Hope you enjoy your pig

  3. guinea pigs are prey animals, so are naturally nervous. without any thing frightening going on, it should take about 3 weeks for a guinea pig to get fully used to its surroundings. with noise, cats, dogs, etc. it could take up to a year. during this time, hand feed your guinea pig and talk to her gently, to form a bond with her

  4. it just depends on the guinea pig. some settle in quite fast and others take a long time. leave him alone for a few days. and then slowly put your hand in the cage with treats in your hands and pet him while he is eating the treat. after a few days of that see if he will allow you to pick him up. those are usually steps that work for an animal to adjust and become friends with you quicker. but dont take the quicker as you need to rush. because you dont.

  5. It shouldn't take very long. I had got a new guinea pig a couple of moths ago. I let her explore a little bit and I showed her around. In just a couple of days she was used to the routine and her area.
