How long will it take for a watermelon to absorb a 750ml bottle?

Last night I cut a hole in the top of a 10lb seedless watermelon and stuck a bottle of rum in it but so far it hasn't gone down more than about 2 inches. I was trying to serve it tonight. How long is this supposed to take? I thought that perhaps the hole on the top was too small creating a vacuum so I made another slightly larger hole on the side and put the bottle in. It still doesn't seem to be making a difference though.

  1. It doesn't ABSORB a thing.  Its cells are saturated with water already.

Its an urban myth.  And you fell for it.

  2. maybe your watermelon is already to juicy and cant take any more liquids? lol

  3. some times the entire bottle will not be obsorbed. I tried this a few years ago and it came out terrible. I wouldnt suggest it

  4. Try using a funnel rather than a bottle to avoid an airlock

I've done this using vodka before but it still took about 2 days, I think it depends on how ripe the melon is.

If it's nice and fresh and juicy it takes ages,

If it's a bit overripe some of the juice has evaporated and the alcohol soaks in a bit quicker

If you really need it for tonight and it doesn't go down try cutting out the flesh and adding it and the rum to a blender.

It comes out like a delicious alcoholic fruit smoothy slush puppy kind of thing and you can serve it in glasses with a spoon!

    Hic Burp!

    Good Luck!

  5. please tell me you used a white rum.....
