Summer started and I have started training. I run the mile on average 7:25. How long to get that under 6 minutes?

My routine everyday: Run 30 minutes or 3-4 miles.

30 minutes of push ups, curl ups, sprints, and lifting.

Mile test.

I do this every day and DON"T SAY YOU ARE OVERTRAINING. How long for me to get that amazing mile time?

  1. obviously you don't want the obvious answer but YOU ARE TRAINING TOO HARD!

  2. I feel it is good to have a variety in your workout routine.  Vary the intensity so that your body has a chance to work on different aspects of running (strength, speed, and endurance) as well as giving you a chance to rest.  I don't think it is helpful doing sprints after a long distance run (because sprints use the fast twitch muscles, which are more effective when the whole body is fresh).  Also, you're not making best use of the muscles if you are lifting after all of that running and then immediately doing that mile test.  I would test the mile once a week, not every day.  Don't forget to have a rest day for full recovery.  If you want to do something on the 7th day, make sure it is REALLY REALLY LIGHT (like stretching only).

Sorry, but it does look like you ARE overtraining and you could hurt yourself more than gain much from it.

  3. You're overtraining-sorry

No time trials! They arent a good idea for someone trying to improve conditioning.

You have a good routine, since your goal is modest.

I would only add strides after your run, at 80% of all out with full recovery.
