How long will it take for my infant to learn to bottle feed?

I just had a baby about a month and a half ago. I am still breastfeeding but for financial reasons I need to go back to work part time. I have a breast pump and bottles with special breastfeeding nipples for them but he acts like he does not want the bottle. Maybe it's because I'm giving the bottle to him?? I dunno. I was just wondering how long it will take to get him used to the bottle with out him fussing so much about it. He can't stand it.

  1. You really need to get someone else to give him the bottle.  He may never take one from you.  My son would never take a bottle at all from anyone.  It didn't matter that much to me as I was a stay at home mom at the time.  We went straight to a sippy cup, but unless your son is around 6 months that won't work for you.  I would suggest having someone else try to give him the bottle, and it would be best if you left the room while they tried.  Just try to be patient about it too.  If the person who is giving him the bottle is stressed the baby will pick up on it.

  2. I'm having a similar problem with my 3 month old - she lets us put the bottle in her mouth for a while, and chews on the teat like a teether,  She makes no attempt to draw out the milk.  I've stopped trying for a while.  She just doesnt seem to recognise that a bottle can feed her too.  If she's hungry, all it does is frustrate her.  I heard it's important for mum to be out of the room when somebody else gives your baby the bottle.  I guess its just a case of trying and trying, and eventually hunger will take control.

  3. My daughter hated the bottle but once she got hungry enough she took it (I also breastfed and had no problems with her eating from the "source"). Try having someone else give him the bottle and stay out of the room. He will see you and want you.

  4. There are some nipples that are wider, especially for breastfed babies.  I think Playtex makes one.  Usually breastfed babies prefer them.

Also, have someone else give him the bottle, and you shouldn't be in the room.  If he knows you're there, he will always choose you.

He'll get used to it, it just going to take some work.

    Good luck.  :)

  5. you can never know every baby is different some babies learn faster than others keep trying to botle feed and the baby will get use to it

  6. Try having someone else give him the bottle.
