  1. It depends upon which country you are a citizen of.  If you are a US citizen then it takes about 4 to 6 weeks and you can read the requirements and regulations at this web site:

    http://travel.state.gov/passport/passpor...

If you are a British citizen then you should visit this  web site for information on processing times:

    http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/index.asp

This is from that web site:

""We aim to return postal applications within three weeks of receiving them, provided the form has been properly filled in and you have attached supporting documents to confirm your identity and eligibility. If you do not do this we may not be able to issue a passport in the expected time. For this reason we strongly advise you not to book any travel until you have your new passport.""

If you are a Canadian citizen it takes from 2 to 4 weeks depending upon whether you walk in or mail in.  This is the web site:  http://www.ppt.gc.ca/index.aspx?lang=eng

  2. about 3 months depends if its your first

  3. Well, what country are you from?   If Australian, the Passport Office aims for a turnaround time of 10 working days.

It's usually a good idea to get the passport before booking an overseas holiday.
