How long will it take for the fruit fly population in my kitchen to die down?

My kitchen was at a scary level of messy for quite a while and the fruit flies were flourishing. So finally I cleaned up the kitchen and now I'm waiting for the fruit flies to be gone. I did smash a bunch, but there are still a bunch in here. I would have expected it to not take very long, but they're still here two days later. How long should it take for them to be gone/dead?

  1. Well one way is to buy a half gallon of apple cider  vinegar pour about two cups in two different shallow bowls and leave it around the kitchen.  The flies are attracted to the vinegar and will fall into the bowls and drown.

Then pour the vinegar down the drains with baking soda to clean them.

  2. One HUGE tip for getting rid of them...

Pour bleach down your sink drains. And clean your counters with Bleach. Best to do the counters at night, when you can let it really get in there without having to worry about it getting onto any food you put on the counter. Then when you get up in the morning, wipe it down with a regular kitchen cleaner. But bleach down the drain is the biggest thing. That's where they will thrive if you have already gotten rid of the mess.

  3. make a trap using rotting food and then zap them with insecticide spray.  a small plastic container that you'll throw out obviously, right?
