  1. Belt takes time and commitment, but i would say 5 years because 4 years 4me to be brown(just befor black)

  2. That's a hard question to answer becuase it all depends on how quickly and how well you master each of the individual belts.  It also depends on your dojo.  Some tend to let people test for each belt fairly quickly, others really want to know that you have mastered each level.  Depends on if the school is truly there for you or your money.  Unfortunately, there are many "black belts" out there that could get their butts kicked easily....because they were not at a very good school.   So it really could be anywhere from a couple of years to many more years.  Make sure to select a school that truly teaches self defense and sparring....and not just kicking in patterns back and forth across the floor.

  3. The shortest is about 2 years, but it really depends on the style, the school, and your level of commitment.

Really though, you shouldn't waste your time obsessing over belts, as black belts today have become pretty meaningless.  Search "black belt sparring" on youtube and you will see clip after clip of blackbelts who couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag!

  4. depends on your skill

  5. it depends on if you go to a "black belt factory" or not but if you go to a good school and go five days a week and are lucky probably around five years. it also depends on how hard the black belt test is if you have one. some just hand them (black belt) out just because they think you have earned it. but if you have a very large test it will be harder to attain the black belt and you may fail at first

  6. Rank means nothing.

    Train to improve yourself.

If you are concerned with time you should just buy a black belt.

  7. Long ago a student asked the master How long will it take my brother to learn this art. The master said it could take as long as several years of dedication. The student replied if I work relay extra hard how long will it take for me to master it. The master replied forever.

The point is not how long it takes to make a particular rank. The point is is this art going to be something to which you dedicate to as if it were a life time avocation or are you willing to keep a commitment to continually improve beyond black belt in spirit and drive. In most schools it will take about 3 to 4 years to achieve a black belt. Some very old fashioned schools it could take a long time or a shorter time.

  8. depends on the art and the school, sometimes 4 years sometimes 8

  9. This is something that no legitimate school will be able to tell you. Earning a Black Belt takes time and commitment, and is highly dependent on the individual person and how often/hard they train. 4 years of good consistant training should be the minimum amount of time. Much will astually depend on the instructor or the organization he belongs to.

Avoid any school that garuntee's you a BB within a set time period like you will be a black belt in two years. These places are basicly selling you the belt, and if you are going to do that you might as well just order one from century martial arts. There are a lot of answers on here about how to find a good school and instructor and what to watch out for.

realize that in most karate styles your Black Belt just signifies that you are now considered a serious student and are now ready to really learn.

  10. why are you worried about how long it takes to get a black belt?

  11. Yeah the black belt, the big ego gratification instant pat on the back of the belt system. I think it sucks, and you should worry about learning the martial arts and know how good you are with out a rank telling you.

  12. I am a dedicated student of kyokobugi martial arts.  Our dojo studies traditional Japanese karate and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.  We are not an MMA school.  I have been training for the past 4 years 6 days a week.  Belt colors really doesn't mean much to me because I plan to train for life.  Martial arts has got to be the best form of exercise there are.  Currently I am a brown belt one stripe (belt before black) in karate and blue belt in jiu-jitsu.  Don't be in such a hurry to have a black belt, be sure that you really earn it and be humbled when you receive it.  Remember training is for life not for just when you receive a black belt.

  13. Good school is 4 to 6 years with alot of hard sparring.  But then you will really be a black belt.

McDojo is < two years little to lite sparring.  You will own ($$$$) a black belt, but not really be one.

  14. 5 days a week in Korea or a Korean-like dojang where you train 2 to 3 hours a day:  1  to 2 years.

3 days a week in most American dojangs:  2 to 5 years.

1 day a week at the local YMCA or Rec Center:  5 to 10 years.

The average amount of time is 5 years for most normal people.  This can vary depending upon how much of a life you have outside of karate.

  15. It depends on the style, how many times a week you go to class, and above all, how much you practice away from class.. Then there are karate schools that add stripes to their belts; in that case it could take a while longer. Some schools  even promote students faster  who win their matches at tournaments.

if the schools ranking  system is : white ,Yellow, orange, blue. purple, green, brown,  black and you take 3 classes a week it could take you 4 years or less.
