I want to start taking lessons in September. If I take one lesson a week (45 min group one) how much practice and time do I need to put in to be pretty good at it (not professional, but accomplished). I don't know how to skate yet.

  1. Well anyone who takes lessons are able to call them an ice skater, and as you start learning advanced jumps, spins, and footwork, you can called yourself a figure skater. It can take anyone 2 years, 4 years, 6 years, 12 years, it all depends on the skater. I believe the MINIMUM should be AT LEAST 2 years, but usually it's more than that. I recommend you skate twice a week (once for lesson and once for practice) if you like the group class and decide to keep going. Good luck.

  2. I did it for eleven years.

    And I'm only fourteen.

I skated from when I was two to when I was thirteen. I did early morning practices before school, and practices in the afternoon after school. I traveled across the country for competitions.

Being a figure skater isn't about time. It's about effort and how much you accomplish with that effort.

Taking one forty five minute group lesson a week won't turn you into Kimmie Meissner, but it's a start. It'll help you decide if you love it enough to stick with it.

  3. if you want to be serious after group ends start private lessons b/c you get a lot more attentionand learn more

when some people think that they think its a lot of money, but it truely isn't
