How long will it take me to learn, progress and eventually buy a good sport bike?

I will for sure take the classes, but my goal is to be able to ride my dream bike the suzuki gsx-r600. How long will it take on a beginner bike and what are some good begginers bikes?

About as long as it takes you to figure out you're in the BICYCLING category.....

I have owned alot of bikes and my friends all owned bike too and here is what I have learned.  If you didn't start riding young like way early teens.  Then you apt to get killed on it.  I don't know why that is, but of the three friends I had that bought bikes that didn't have them when they were young are all dead.  Carefull what you wish for.  Why not get a dirt bike instead?
