How long will it take to drive from Denver to Panama City? Gas Costs? Miles? Miles of Coastline (Pacific)?

Question

I am contemplating taking a 6 month surf trip starting next May. I would like to drive South down the Pacific Coast of Mexico, through El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama. Any and all info would be much appreciated.

Make sure you bring extra cash for bribes when you are asked for you other papers.  Bring lots of spare auto parts and drive something from Asia so you can get the parts you don't bring.  4x4 is a plus lots of the roads to the good breaks are not well maintained plus it will be raining in most spots that time of year.   Take you time and have fun.

I'm a long time surfer and divemaster and have worked and surfed from Mexico to Panama as well as a large portion of South America. Asking for *any and all information* isn't very specific and I'm sure you realize that it would constitute a LOT of information. Why don't you start by looking  through what is already archived on the web.

Many people have already done,or are currently doing the very same thing right now and blogging the whole Mexico to Panama surf thingy.There are also at least a half dozen or more books written specifically about everything you need to know and what you need to have to drive a motorcycle,a motorhome or a car from Mexico to Panama or for that matter from Alaska to Argentina  My friend Tom at xelapages.com recently wrote a piece about his last trip driving from Xela to Brownsville TX.and back to Guatemala.Check it out as it has some good and accurate information for free on that particular leg of the trip.

Surely you can find a map or an atlas at your local library and  use it to estimate your own driving times,gas costs, miles,and  (miles of coastline)  I'm kind of curious why you care how many miles of coastline there are. A large part of it is not even accessible to vehicles and the Panamerican highway doesn't go down the coast and not all of the coast that you CAN get to is surfable.So I can't help but wonder why that particular mileage figure would hold any interest for you.
