How long will it take to get my credit back?

I had credit score of like 760 or something like that.

Well in the last few months I was late with a credit card payment and then just a few days ago, I went over my credit limit. Both accidents but still my fault.

So, I know that my credit score has gone down because of it, but also wondering how long it will take to get my score back up.

Right now I don't need the credit. What I mean is I don't plan to buy something (other than gas) for a couple years, and these 2 accidents were the first in some 3 -4 years.

How long will it take to get my score back up?

  1. Make sure it doesn't happen again - as the negative events age, they will affect your score less and less.

  2. If you have never been late before I would call the credit card company and ask them to remove the late.  Tell them it was an oversite on your behalf.  They will usually do this, especially with your score and credit history.  Were you more than 30 days late.  They will not report it unless you are more than 30 days late.  As for going over the limit, if you are back under the limit now, the effects on your score will be minimal, maybe 5 points, and you can get those back easy if you pay that card down and get the utilization below 30%.
