  1. It is not possible to make reservations. You should just go there and wait in line. Advance reservations are not accepted.

  2. I wouldn't expect the Vatican to be able to help you too much with that. I would call a tour group and book through them. I just got back from Rome  and we waited on a line for 2.5 hours to get into the Vatican, and that was with tickets in hand.

Check out this link. At the very bottom is a name and telephone numbers to book a tour. http://www.romeguide.it/VATICANO/necropo...

  3. It is possible to make reservations-in fact, the only way to make reservations is directly with the Vatican-NO private tour groups offer tours of the necropolis-"scavi"-under St. Peter's.

    Here's what you should do:

    Go to www.vatican.va

click on "information"; scroll down page to "Visits to the Vatican Necropolis"-and send an email; the Vatican has reputation for not answering faxes.

We sent an email; it took a week to get an initial response, which was basically, "we got your request".  It then took another week, and we got a confirmation email, which required us to pay in full in advance, by credit card.  All of this was done by email.

I hope this helps, and I hope you get to take the tour; it was amazing.
