Okay so I started being a vegetarian (ovo-lacto) about three days ago and I'm not even close to being called a real one but I'm trying this to lose some weight. How long before I start seeing results?

  1. If you have a good diet plan and strategy, you can still take normal food for long term to lose weight. It's not necessary to become a vegan to lose weight, if you do it wrongly, you may not lose weight but even gain weight.

  2. There is no evidence anywhere that indicates vegetarians are healthier or more successful at fat loss than non-vegetarians; becoming a vegetarian isn't a bad thing, I just hope it's more for personal reasons than a way to lose weight.

So, if you do go this route, make sure you're getting adequate high-quality proteins; this is one area that is always challenging to vegetarians. Become educated in diet and nutrition, as well as the foods you do choose to consume. You can never go wrong with balanced whole food selections. One of the big traps vegetarians fall into is consuming too many processed foods in order to meet nutritional needs.

As with any other program, under ideal conditions you can expect to see measureable fat loss in 4-6 weeks. The only way to know what's actually being lost on the scale is to get weekly bodyfat tests using accurate means.

  3. Just so you know, I was a ovo-lacto vegetarian for about 15 years and maintained a healthy weight, but never lost any weight. When I went vegan is when I actually lost weight. My guess is that since dairy products are so foreign to our bodies, when we cut them out, our bodies drop a bunch of weight. This is pretty consistent across the board with people I know who are vegan. To give you an idea, I would guess it was within about a month of going vegan that I lost about 10 pounds-- also, I'm small already, so for a larger person, I would assume the loss would be a greater number of pounds.

  4. well...id assume that it wont be long esp if u nix the sugary foods and opt for fruits...but again after a jump start that will have u excited, ul end up loosing less per week or weeks...just because ur body is getting used to supporting it self on the foods ur eating...im someone who dosent eat much meat and i can tell u its still just as hard loosing pounds lol...it wont show if u end up eating just as much...if u just became a vegetarian to loose weight i can tell u it isnt the right way...ur better off getting ur protien in the leanest way possible...i needa cut out a lot of carbs for me...im a carb-o-holic...lol...and right now the situation is super hard...it cant be helped the people i live with eat horribly and encourage like the devil to eat more lol as well as encourage and make valid points as to why i should stay inside instead of going for a daily walk and run like i normally do living in another area...i wanna loose about 25 pounds...and in a couple weeks il be able to start it up...im not stupid...this isnt the nvironment i can diet and exercise in lol...im gonna try my best to keep my weight constant tho until i can return to a better environment.

  5. Eat avocados and artichokes.  Coconuts also are good.

  6. If done properly with proper amounts of the right nutrients your body needs on a day to day basis... maybe a month or two till you see true results.

Going vegetarian is good, but you still gadda get that cardio in, and get allot of protein and other nutrients your body needs that veggies alone don't always cover.

    Good luck!
