I just got braces yesterday. Mine isn't that serious, I only have about 3-4 crooked teeth. How long will it take to notice the changes in my teeth? And is it normal for my lips to swell?

  1. I noticed a change in my vertical alignment of my teeth in just one month.  I used to have bunny teeth (two front teeth) and now they're all the same level.  I only had one slightly crooked tooth, and it took 3 months for it to be straight.  My lips only swelled a little bit for the first day or two.  Hope this helps!

  2. Yes, it's normal for lips to swell.  Rates of change vary greatly from person to person.  For complete adjustment, 18-48 months is normal.  You do notice a bit of change after a few months, especially when you go in for your first and second tightening.  Just make sure when they come off that you USE THE RETAINER!  Otherwise they'll just go back the way they were!

  3. correcting crocked teeth is very fast, say about a month or less. Lips swell due to the metal brackets rubbing against.

  4. It depends on if you use the rubber bands every day. For the most part much pain is involved. Took me 2 years. Depending on the teeth I guess about 1 year. If your dedicated.

  5. Maybe a few months. When you first get them on it feels miserably painful cuz they are shifting into place but it's all worth it when they are straight.
