How long will it take to renew my passport?

I am a Belgian citizen (over 18) who needs to renew my passport and fast! I live in the U.S near L.A Averagely, how long does it take to renew the passport and how can I speed up the process?

this time of year, nothing will go fast,summer is here and everyone is in a hurry,if you get an emergency passport, it will only be valid for 6 months and you will not be able to return to the US with it.
