  1. If you travel Monday to Saturday it would take between 4-5 hours depending on where you change trains as there are no direct trains from Newcastle.  You would either change at Doncaster, Peterborough or London.

If you travel on Sunday it would take between 4-5 hours and you would need to change trains at London Kings Cross then get the Underground to London Liverpool Street and then onto a train to Ipswich.

  2. You could be looking at anything from 5 to 10 hours dependant on route, day and time.  travelling on Saturday or Sunday will take longer, weekday travel will depend on time a lot.

There are some fast services that run down to York then fast to London stopping at Peterbourgh only, then tube across to Liverpool Street and then out to Ipswich, this is also the most expensive route as well.

Other route would be to Peterbourgh, across to Ely, Norwich and then down to Ipswich which would mean avoiding London but a couple of changes of trains.

Best thing to do would be to go to your local mainline station and enquire on route and prices, have a good idea of when you want to travel, date and time you need to be in Ipswich and allow the clerk to work out everything for you and see what they recommend.

Dont forget the earlier you do it before travel the more likely you are to get a good bargin on ticket price.

    Good Luck

  3. it depends on the route.  If you go to the following website you will be able to search the route. It wil tell you the time for each segment and you'll need to add the waiting time between segments yourself. Hope this helps.

    http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/fares_...

It amounts to about 5 1/2 hours total.

  4. Well, I used to go to Norwich and back from Edinburgh and that took between 7 and 9 hours, so from Newcastle to Ipswich I'd say between 5 and 7.

By the way, you can't just get one train from Newcastle to Ipswich. You'll have to get on a train that's heading for London, then get off at Peterborough or something.

  5. A line I often travel   LOL   the 11oclock takes 4hr 24   as you will know change at Peterbro   you may find booking ticket to Peterbr and another  to Ipswich  maybe cheaper  when you want to travel   through ticket on the 11.0clock 5/8/08 £34.50

booking twice got one for just over 22 quid the other day,was late evening  If a regular traveller read on  the Ipswich train  proceeds to London   and normally a 170  DMU and on the same platform you have got off at  not a bad cup of coffee there either

  6. If you go to http://www.thetrainline.com , enter your starting station and ending station, the day and time you wish to travel, the search engine on the site will suggest best routes, times and total journey time.

  7. It really amazes me at times that people answer on this form without apparently having the foggiest idea of what they are talking about. 7 -10 hours to get from Newcastle to Ispwich - that is such nonsense!. You can do must journeys in under 5 hours - times vary between 4 1/2 (the 14.56 this afternoon), 4 3/4 (the 13.01) and 5.07 (the 13.29). The longer journeys are those via London, King's Cross, the shorter by changing at Peterborough. Furthermore, travelling via Peterborough only entails one change  - at that station.
