hey dude this is a tricky question.a person like Mendis who has developed the carrom ball has his armour may get his 100 wickets in a short time only if he retain his place in the test team and as long as his armour is unplayable .

but in test it is difficult to get wickets than in ODI  as the batsman has a long time for him to play out .but if continue balling he has done against India in Asia cup he would complete his 100 wickets in no time (around 25 test)

After his tremendous performance in the asia cup most of us agreed that he is great. But it could be said with out doubt that he wont take 6 wickets each match.

so i have come up with the conclusion that he will take around 1.5 wickets a match.

Murali took 27 tests to take 100 wickets, and George Lohmann who took fewest matches to do it,  he took 100 wickets in 16 test matches. Kapil Dev took 25 matches, and only 1 year & 105 days to reach the 100 wicket milestone.

Ajantha Mendis is yet to prove his skills in test cricket. And the pressure is high on him. On an average, he might take about 28 to 32 test matches, and 2 years or more to reach there.

Mendis is a beautiful spinnner with carom balls in his armour , which can surprise the batsman and he can complete the 100 wickets in around 100 test matches, so i would say around 10 years only !

Mendis is a good promising young bowler. I wish that he should reach this target  at the earliest. but If we calculate,today id his first match average  in a match say 4 to 5 wickets.as such he should achieve the target in 20 to 25 matches.but that's not possible  in actuall. May be some matches will be washed out and in some matches he will not get the second innings . I expect that he can achieve this target somewhat in 30th to 32nd match. Another logic.

Consider Murlidharan- he has played 120 matches  with + 700 wkts. we should not expect  mendis to perform as murli could. Murli's av is 7 wkts per test match.let us consider 3 wkts pertest mtch for mendis. so its near 30 matches. Also another logic . See the leg spinners from  India like shiva rama krishnan they disd very well in the staring but failed to take 10 wkts rather 4-5 wkts in match later. so all these things r to be considered.

Any how , all the best to Mendis - may he achieve this feast in no time.
