Question:

How long will newly introduced Guinea Pigs argue for?

Hi, this question has probably been asked many times, but i'd just like a more personal answer. I've just bought 2 new guinea pig girls, both about 8 weeks old. One was purchased yesterday, and the other today. They are both from different litters.

Since I introduced them, they seem to have been bickering, rumbling and mounting one another quite frequently. They're definitely female as both the seller and myself has sexed them. I know they're probably just asserting their dominance, but how long will this go on for? And how long should I keep an eye on them for?

Thanks.

  1. Well, I had an old guinea pig, then I introduced it to a younger guinea pig after her friend died. They fought so bad that I needed to get two cages and keep them seperate. Each day I put them together in an open area, so that they could get away from the other one if they felt it was necessary, and I always kept an eye on them when I had them together. As soon as they started getting used to each other, we put them in a cage together. Within about a week and a half, we could keep them in the cage together all the time without us having to watch them all the time. As long as the fighting is not severe, they should get used to each other gradually. However, squealing, chattering, and an occasional "peck" at each other will still continue for a while!

  2. My 2 girls did this for about 3-4 days. And they still argue 1 or 2 days per month.

  3. animal dominanc eis a BBBIG thing in the animal kingdom. try to eather kep them sepret or let it continue but if it goes on for more than a month you might consiter puting them in differant cages.
