Question:

How long will side effects of Zoloft last?

I started taking Zoloft two weeks ago and the only noticeable side effect I'm experiencing is the inability to sleep. I get really tired but when I try to sleep I can't, regardless of how sleepy I am. Does anyone from experience have a time estimate as to how long the side effects last, and will they go away? I've tried other medications, and I really like this one, except for that one thing.

Thanks in advance!

  1. I had the inability to sleep problem with Zoloft, so I take it in the morning.

  2. These side effects are completely normal and will go away in about 6-8 weeks. If it gets to bad you can A. Take it in the morning or B. Ask you Doctor to prescribe a benzo, like xanax or klonopin at a very low dose until the intial 6-8 week period is over and you've made it over the hump.

    Good luck!!!

  3. That side effect will likely go away and likely soon. It is a common side effect for these types of drugs at first. The most noticeable side effect I have experienced with Zoloft is weight gain. Watch that one. It's a real *****.

  4. I take zoloft too, I had the same problem.

I found that taking it in the morning instead of at night helped.

Stress may also be contributing to your sleep problems.

I now sleep very well, while taking my medication in the morning.
