How long will the Usain bolt record of 100 m race last?

For the last 20 years or so, the record in 100 m has been between 9 secs and 10 secs.

Will there be a 100m record that is less than 9 secs?

What is the minimum time it will take a human to run 100m? Can it ever be 5 secs or less (like in 30 to 50 years from now) ?

  1. 15 years

  2. Well who knows. if you managed to watch the womens 4x200m relay in swimming the other day, they smashed the record by about 3secs or so. And leading up the olympics the swimmers were breaking records left right and centre. So yeah i'd like to see how much more time people will be able to take off these records.

  3. He'll beat his own record in 2009.

  4. only usain can beat it i reckon he can run under 9 seconds

there is a british athlete called jason gibbons who ran 9.55 but the black listed him as he was a criminal a mayjor criminal so they have erased all knowledge of him

  5. He's gonna beat his own in less than a year. He stretched out his arms the last 15m which slowed him down.

  6. Probably in 15 to 20 years. If you watched Bolt from Jamaica win the 100 meter dash in 9.68 so easily, you won't be surprised to know that the he will break the record many more times. He even slowed up to smile and beat his chest 15 meters from the finish and he still set a world record.  I say that they will break 9.0 in 20 years for sure, but never below 8.5.

  7. I will give it no less than 15 years. The record will continue to fall closer and closer to 9 seconds. Less than that may be a bit of a reach. Less than 5 seconds is quite impossible, although I would love to be proven wrong on that one.

  8. It will last until he breaks it. It won't take long...he could have easily been faster (more than 0.05 seconds faster) if he hadn't started celebrating 15 meters early. I honestly don't know if anyone else will ever break whatever his final record is.

Edit: meant 0.05 secs, not 5.

  9. if anyone is gonna break his record, its gonna be himself.

other than that, its gonna be a while before anyone tops that.

Asafa Powell could do it, when Powell ran 9.74 he hardly ran after his drive phase and transitional phase, and slowed down the last 35 meters.

  10. i think he will beat his own record.

he was such an idiot 2 start celebratin early!!!

i was screamin at da tv screen =]

  11. possibly we will beat 9 seconds in future; bolt has chance to break his own record (he is able to run 9,6)

  12. 9.69 seconds

no there would never be a human that can do 100m in less than 9seconds running.

unless humans can grow wings no
