Question:

How long will these urges last?

I am 16 and i have smoked cigarettes since i was 12 and haven't smoked close to 5 a day since then. Please no one say "you shouldn't have smoked you were still young" because i had peer pressure from my cousin, i was young, and i got addicted soon. I gave it up 5 days ago and i feel great. I still have urges to smoke but i fight them by chewing gum, working out, running, reading, swimming, cooking, etc. I am just wondering how long these urges will last. Ive heard that they will last my whole life but i am still young and Ive only smoked for 4 years. I want to be able to have a future where i don't think about smoking every 3 hours or so. Any help? And how long in your opinion will they last? Thank you so much!!!

  1. my dad told me when he 1st started to quit smoking, he would take it day by day and just say, "i'm not going to smoke today." he said this sounded a lot easier to him than, just saying he was going to stop all together. he says he still likes the smell of them but he can fight the urge. It is doable. good luck though.

  2. have you tried that nicotine gum? whenever you get an urge you should chew that

  3. Congratulations on your quit. You are doing great and don't give up. It will take a few months for all of those chemicals to leave your body for good. Don't get discouraged either or listen to negative people.

I was a smoker for 39 years and have been clean now for only 2 months. Already I feel much better than when I was smoking.
