How long will unopened water last before it spoils?

I am putting together an emergency kit for my vehicle and I'm including some bottled water in it and was wondering if anyone knew how long it would be good for before I needed to replace it.

Water is water.

Water does not spoil like milk, juice ect.

I don't really understand how spoiled water would really be

considering there are rivers with water that don't spoil.

Every brand I ever bought had an expiration date on the bottle. See if yours does.

it has an expiration date cause the plastic from bottle can make your water taste musty and wierd. if you store your water in a warm place, the faster the taste gets into your water.

In a glass bottle, unopened, it will last for decades. Plastic bottles begin to leech chemicals into the water but will last for years unopened. Good idea about the kit. A small fire extinguisher is often overlooked.
