  1. standard oil doesn't degrade, you can actually still buy army surplus oil (sealed) i've seen it dated as early as 1961 (all the oil was dated)


  2. Well, as the raw material is in effect millions of years old already, I wouldn't think that even a human lifetime would make a lot of difference.

    It will only start to oxidise in the presence of heat above 80 deg C so thats not really a problem.

    Your biggest problem would be contamination if the can was left uncovered.

  3. To find out for sure, try a little test. Set an oil can ( unopened ) on a shelf. Next to it, set a can of cold beer ( unopened ). On another shelf, ditto with opened cans.

  5. It will last for years as long as the top is on to keep out moisture and dirt.
