  1. About the same time you get the eviction notice on your door.

  2. usually about 7 days, but I would call my bank to see if it cleared or not.

  3. I would check with the bank to be sure the check hasn't cleared. If it bounced, tell the landlord or management about as soon as you know for sure. They might be more willing to work with you on getting caught up if you're honest with them about the mistake.

You'll still have to pay any bounced check fees, but they may not otherwise penalize you.

If they haven't deposited it yet, you might have time to ask them to hold it for a little while while you fix the situation.

If the check will bounce for sure, but hasn't hit the bank  yet, like they haven't deposited it yet, you might have time to hock something, borrow some money or transfer some money from savings to cover the check before it gets there. Then you'll have no problems at all.

    Good luck.

  4. Be proactive and call your bank to see if it cleared. Do not wait until they find out about it. Checks are processed electronically, so they may know fairly quickly.

As a landlord, a bounced check will get the tenant:

    1. a bounced check fee of $35.00

    2. since rent is late, the late fee of $75.00 kicks in

    3. a notice to Pay or Quit and the accompanying legal fee of $40.00

    4. if tenant pays rent and all of the above fees in cash or certified funds by the 3rd day, they can stay, but I will no longer accept personal checks from tenant.
