  1. This is at the descretion of the local parish priest.  The priest can give you private instruction, decide you're ready without instruction, or recommend the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or some other education course in the Catholic faith.  I presume from your note that you were batized Catholic, there's actually no requirement  that you have received confirmation and first communion for you to be married in the church, though it is prefered.

For adults received into the Church the norm is to recieve first communion and confirmation (and baptism when necessary) all at the same time.

  2. Start RCIA classes now and receive Communion and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil.

  3. I'd say talk to the priest now about RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults).  He would be able to give you a time frame.  If you are lucky enough to have a priest like the one I have, he might Confirm you and give you your first Communion if he knows that you know and agree with the doctrine and dogma of the church.  But if not, then you'll have to go through RCIA

  4. I've actually never really heard of doing them the same. I know that you must have the communion first though.

  5. Unless things have changed, first communion was part of the confirmation services I knew of.

It's more about how extensive the confirmation classes would be before hand.  Several weeks in my experience, so people are clear what it is they are confirming they believe.

(Since it's supposed to be about expressing real faith, not ticking off requirements for a church wedding. An example of how religion survives without belief in its central object?)
