  1. Depends on a lot of things... size, is there existing walls, studs, electric?  you will frist have to have stairs to it.  stud it out, put in electric, drywall, flooring, paint, doors, trim, etc.

A friend re-did her whole upstairs that was a attic only.  Already was studded out, has some outlets and only pull chain lighting.  they made two bedrooms at top of stairs one to left and one to right.  for insulation, windows, electrical work, heating, cooling, painting, trim, doors, closet doors, carpet, etc it was $15,000

  2. as long as it takes to get your a$$ up there with a bed

  3. Depends on how much of the attic needs to be cleared up and the nature of modifications he'd need to make before you can move in. Mostly, you'd need more ventilation, windows and light coming in, so that would take time. Furniture too would need to be decided, based on how much space you have there. All in all, it would take at least 10-20 days to convert a normal attic into a habitable bedroom.

  4. It really depends on how much carpentry experience your dad has.  It takes a skilled Carpenter to build the stairs along with bracing the ceiling. soon to be the floor.  I qualified carpenter should be able to complete a simple make over in a weeks time, although if stairs and windows, bathroom, etc are being planned, it could take up to two months.  Good luck.

  5. You have to give a better picture on what you are dealing with also it depends on how good you pops is

  6. Impossible to answer, Hon.  It all depends on two major major things.  How good is your Dad at remodeling, and how much needs to be done?

It could take as little as a month, but it could also take much more.  If you help him and clean up the various debris all the time, it will help LOTS!

First, ask how you can help.

Second, sweep up, pick up nails and sawdust, scraps of wood, that sort of thing.  Just like anywhere else, a clean work area makes the job go faster and smoother.  If he sees you helping, he'll not only appreciate it, he'll be able to work faster, and will actually want to work faster since he sees you're really active in the job.

If you can't actually help, keep him supplied with water, coffee, and sandwiches.  He'll appreciate it.
