Do you think this would be a good career to get into...is it still going to be a high demand job after 2014? I am 28 with 2 kids ages 3 and 10. Thank you!

  1. YOu would need to get a bachelors degree, which is about 4 years. WIth a job and kids, you may need more time. I think some schools may take you without a degree but it is competitve. After that you go to pharmacy school. I am not sure how long that lasts, but it would be another few years.

  2. You have to get your PHD, so about 6 years including a BS.

  3. I think it takes six years to become a Pharmist. Think about the baby boomers all getting old and needing medicine , the health field is going to need Pharmacists- Pharmacy techs , nurses etc

  4. Oh yes, pharmacists are in demand, and the demand is only growing.

You definitely need a bachelor's degree before you can even get into a pharmacy school. You'll need biology, chemistry and some math.

It used to be, 3 years of pharmacy school and you were a pharmacist, but now pharmacists are expected to know more about which drugs are used to treat which diseases, so PhDs are beginning to be required. It may be the same number of years, I don't know - I mean, you can go right from a bachelor's program into a PhD program - not sure about for pharmacy.
