How long would it take to circle the UK mainland on a boat?

This came up at work today round the water cooler and I have no idea where to find out?

I have cruised the south coast for years in a sailing boat (which usually goes about 5 knots). You can do 60 miles a day without knocking yourself out. So I would say to circumnavigate the UK - realistically you would have to give yourself at least 2 months.

Obviously you can blast round in a speed boat non-stop in about 3 days - depends how much fun you want on the way.

firstly how long would it take to drive around a grand prix ring?, secondly what car and what engine will you use, now your answer look at 1st question and now the second question, but take in the wind and tide

Depends how fast you're going.

Measure the distance you wanna go (you will know this as you have to do route planning anyway), then divide it with the average speed that you intend to hold with your watercraft .

I required almost 24 hours including overnight camp to circle

18 mile shoreline of ocean island by kayak.  It could have been faster had I utilized tidal water more often than fighting it.

I'd be looking at camp prospects for day travel on any arm

powered circle transit of UK.  This certainly expands the trip time.  UK weather is always a factor as are conflicts the waters present when tide is in conflict with weather, obstructions, etc.  I'd give myself a year to paddle and hope seaside restaurants don't kill me.

Kayak around 175 days

I have found records of a 4 month journey by yacht but this could be a lot faster

Speedboat would bring the time down drastically
