  1. Well, Good luck the waves dont get that great down there.  yOu will find months with poor surf conditions like a flat lake. So it will take about 1 whole year. I lived on the beach at PB.. I surfed everyday. The days it was flat I laid out and got a better tan.

It wasnt until i started to compete that i became better at the sport. Good luck

  2. surfing takes a lifetime.

  3. Dude. do you realize how stupid your questions are?

    Honestly!

Surfing isn't like baseball or tennis. You can be in the water your whole life and still not get it.

A brain Surgeon can go to school and boom he's a brain surgeon, and after only how many years?

Surfing isn't like that. Sure, you may be a proficient surfer eventually from surfing san diego everyday, but what happens when you head up to Steamer Lane up the road a few hours? When you go to Huntington Pier, even less hours? Scorpion beach, the opposite direction? You just can't chill at Oceanside your whole life and call yourself a real surfer.

Asking Questions on Answers isn't going to make you a better surfer. You can get information that may help(but it isn't likely), but the only true way to get better is to get out and surf.

  4. Surfing takes a long time to learn. You will have to go every day for about a month before you start standing up and catching waves. This also depends on the beach break...a lot of times in San Diego it's pretty crappy and flat. You can practice on the small breaks though to stand up. To start getting good probably a straight 2 years of nothing but surfing and to get really good more and more years and practice is all key.

  5. it will most likely take years to get very well at surfing.

  6. years and years of experience. like 5 or 6 to be quite good. it depends on how fast you learn and how daring you are.

  7. it depends how you are surfing, it depends the board, and the beach. if you are just begining get a long board its easier to learn on.

  8. A lifetime. Not everyone can be a Machado, Slater, Irons, Skip Frye, Gerry Lopez, or the Duke. "Really good" is such a subjective phrase.

You've got guys like Pat O'Connell or Taylor Knox who don't do airs but rip, and you've got someone like Jamie O'Brien or Taj Burrow who do crazy airs.  Yet they have different styles, but are still great surfers.

It all depends on what you want to do while surfing.  Relax? Rip? It's all how you approach it. Not putting down the WCT, but there's more to surfing than being a Pro Surfer. Ask Dave Rastovich and Donovan F.

  9. surfing takes a lifetime to perfect

  10. Whether its San Diego, or someplace else, surfing everyday is a pipe dream. If you surf 'lots of days' it depends on your athletic ability on how fast you get "really good". You should already be a strong ocean swimmer before you start. Pool swimming is nice, but it's not the ocean. If you are a fair athlete, and have okay balance, you can get pretty good in one season. It might take a few years to get 'real' good. I have been surfing for over forty years. I have gotten 'real good' a couple of times, but mostly what counts is if you are good enough that you feel stoked and happy while surfing. It's also more important that you learn good surfing etiquette first. That way the surfers who are already "real good" won't want to strangle you while you are out there learning.

  11. a lifetime.
